Attenuation of N-nitrosodimethylamine induced hepatotoxicity by Operculina turpethum in Swiss Albino mice
Authors
Abstract:
Objective(s): To appraise the antihepatotoxic efficacy of ethanolic extract of Operculum turpethum root on the liver of Swiss albino mice. Materials and Methods: Hepatic fibrosis was induced in adult male albino mice through intraperitoneal administrations of N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) at the concentration of 10 mg/kg body weight. The liver toxicity and therapeutic effect of the plant ethanolic extract was assessed by the analysis of liver marker enzymes and antioxidant enzymes and liver histopathological studies. Results: Hepatotoxicity was manifested by significantly decreased (P

full textOperculina turpethum attenuates N-nitrosodimethylamine induced toxic liver injury and clastogenicity in rats.
The root extract of Operculina turpethum (OTE) has been used as an anti-inflammatory, purgative, and hepato-protective agent. N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) is a potent hepatotoxin that induces fibrosis of the liver. In the present study, we examined the therapeutic effects of OTE root extract against NDMA-induced hepatotoxicity and clastogenicity in rats. Hepatic fibrosis was induced in adult m...
full textProtective Effect of Root Extract of Operculina turpethum Linn. Against Paracetamol-Induced Hepatotoxicity in Rats
The ethanolic extract obtained from roots of Operculina turpethum (Convolvulaceae) were evaluated for hepatoprotective activity in rats by inducing liver damage by paracetamol. The ethanol extract at an oral dose of 200 mg/kg exhibited a significant protective effect by lowering serum levels of glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase, glutamic pyruvic transaminase, alkaline phosphatase and total bili...
full textPotential Recovery from Hepatotoxicity by Operculina Turpethum and Its Isolated Stigma-5,22dien-3-o-b-d- Glucopyranoside against N- Nitrosodimethylamine, a Potent Carcinogen in Animal Model
N-Nitrosodimethylamine is one of the main N-nitroso compound, commonly found in drinking water and is a potent hepatotoxin, carcinogen and mutagen. The curative effect of ethanolic root extract of Operculina turpethum was studied for its possible hepatoprotective potential against NNitrosodimethylamine in Swiss albino mice. Hepatic malondialdehyde (MDA), Superoxide dismutase(SOD),catalase(CAT),g...
full textRectification of radiation-induced damage in swiss albino mice by aloe vera leaf extracts (AVE)
Background: From the time immemorial man has been exposed to ionizing radiation from the environment in which he lives. Radiation protection concepts and philosophy have been evolving over the past several decades. Materials and Methods: The radioprotective of effect of Aloe vera leaf extract (1000 mg /kg b.wt. orally for 15 consecutive days) has been studied against 6 Gy of gamma radiation in ...
